FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS!!!
Well, here is an attempt to forestall any further emails with the same questions time after time. I would really like to thank all of you (mostly) for your emails and comments. I don't mind answering emails, but please try here first. So, here we go:
| What paint(s) do you use? |
It all depends, and I'll try to break it down for you here:
Minis: Well, I use quite a few different paints.
Here's the list and my quick reviews: Models: I use mostly the Gunze Sangyo Acrylics. I have also used Tamiya to do work on my armor. It all really depends on the finish and effect that I am trying to achieve. I've successfully airbrushed both the Reaper Master Paints and the Vallejo Game Color paints as well. |
|
| What airbrush do you use? | An Iwata HP-C and an Iwata Revolution CR. No other airbrushes compare in my book... period. Check it out at www.dixieart.com. Great prices and good customer service. Hunt around the internet, you can find some specials on a complete set up sometimes. | |
| What brushes do you use? | I use Windsor & Newton Series 7s paint brushes. There are no other brushes that compare when it comes to miniature painting. The Vallejo and Reaper Master Series are great also... I also have a store of crappy beat-em-up brushes that I use for terrain and other misc work. | |
| What brushes do you recommend? | Just get yourself a set of W&N Series 7, a Vallejo set, or a Reaper Master Series Kolinskys set of brushes in the 1, 0, and 00 sizes. Then do yourself a big favor and get some Windsor & Newton brush cleaner to take care of your brushes. As the old adage goes, you are only as good as your tools. So save yourself the time and money, and get yourself the best and TAKE CARE OF EM!!! | |
| Where do you get your ideas from? | I ain't a telling!!! I'm freaking weird! If I were rich, I'd be eccentric, but I'm not. So that just makes me weird... | |
| What do you prime your minis with? |
First, I use my airbrush to prime.
As for paint, well it all depends... in the past I used the Gunze Sangyo Flat Black (H12) and then Flat White
(H11). The Gunze is nice to
work with once cured and by using the airbrush I don't obscure any fine
details. The Vallejo Model Air Colors work well, but are VERY thin,
and require some adjustments in terms of PSI and distance to use. Right now I use a coat of Sandable Auto Primer, and then the Reaper MSP to prime my minis with. They thin well, and since I'm painting the miniature with them, it seems to have worked out the best. |

| How can I buy your work? How do you ship? What payment do you accept? | Click the "Policies" button on the above menu.. | |
| So, what is your Rank on CMON? |
|
|
| What do you think about CMON? | It's just the largest single database of miniature images there is. Rank, voting, Top 10, etc. really mean little. A painter knows how good he/she is. If you want to find out how good you truly are, you need to enter a REAL live contest... still, you might get screwed by something... but them's the breaks. I guess I'm trying to say that CMON has it's place, and so do real live contests. But only you know your true worth... It's all about the PAINTING for me... and everyone who paints is fine in my book. | |
| Are you a Master Painter? |
I don't know. What do you think? It's not like
you get a diploma or something saying "Hey! Now you are a Master
Painter!" Personally I think there are far to many people who consider
(and label) themselves as a "Master Painter". But it takes all kinds,
I guess. I don't like using the term "Master Painter". I'm a
painter... that's all. Seriously though, there are a lot of talented people out there painting miniatures, and helping others to learn to paint miniatures. I'm just very damn lucky to sometimes be included in that bunch. |
|
| Can I email you??? | Yes, email me at jesterspeed@comcast.net with your questions. I generally take the time to answer all emails... | |
As I get more questions, I will go ahead and post them up here. Thanks for looking!
